CAROLEE EVELYN BAILEY Of Victoria, BC was surrounded by love when she passed away on March 1, 2010 after an inspiring fight with pancreatic cancer. Born in Middleton, Nova Scotia on October 27, 1934, she grew up in small town Nova Scotia with her beloved mother the late Evelyn Morse (formerly Balcom) (nee Marshall), father late Ralph Balcom and dear brother late Murray Balcom. She graduated from Kentville High school and completed her nursing diploma in Halifax in 1956. At graduation, she delivered a touching and humorous valedictorian speech to her fellow nurses. Always up for an adventure, she then went Boston for additional clinical training. Although she loved Boston, she moved to Toronto in the 1960's to be closer to her family. In Toronto, she met and married her husband the late Dr. T. Jack Bailey and also completed her MSc in health administration (U of T). She raised her family in London, Ontario where she was a proud member of Robinson United Church. Her professional career included the roles of nurse, researcher, published author and hospital administrator. With entrepreneurial vision and courage, she and her brother developed a software company in the 1980's which remains successful to this day. She was in many ways, ahead of her time. 'Retirement' brought new challenges and she worked tirelessly to further causes within the CFUW in Burlington and Victoria. Sad to leave her special friends in the Burlington area, she moved to Victoria in 2007 once again to be near family. All who met her were str uck by her warmth and exceptional ability to be positive, which remained steadfast until the end. Her friends describe her as someone who gave so much and asked for so little. She was a scholar, researcher, genealogist, entrepreneur and advocate who loved all causes humanitarian. She was a fierce defender of the underdog with a sharp sense of humour and genuine interest in others. Despite her accomplishments, she remained humble and kept the concern for others foremost in her thoughts. Above everything else, her life was defined by the love and support she gave to family and friends, unconditionally. She will be deeply missed by her son Andrew Bailey, his wife Karen as well as her daughter Catherine and son in law JeanClaude Patchell. She will also be missed by cherished grandchildren Noah, Elijah, Abigail and sister in law Susan Walters. She was so many wonderful things but to put it simply, she had a beautiful heart, which she poured into everyone and everything... A memorial service will be at the Salvation Army Citadel, 4030 Douglas St., Victoria, BC on March 21, 2010 at 2 p.m. refreshments to follow. An additional service will be in Burlington, Ontario in May 2010 details TBA.
